KOLKATA: The CITU on Wednesday extended support to striking Indian employees, saying the demands raised by the Air Corporation Employees Union were justified and legal.

In a statement, Kali Ghosh, general secretary of the West Bengal chapter of CITU, said the employees had been forced to go on a flash strike as their demands had not been met for long.

He alleged that the office of the Central Labour Commissioner had withdrawn from tripartite talks, following which the discussions remained inconclusive.

Ghosh also demanded that the civil aviation ministry should not take recourse to suppressing the protest through coercive measures.

Meanwhile, 23 Indian employees have been served suspension notices by the ministry.

The demands of the striking employees include revision of pay structure, introduction of a pension scheme and framing of a proper promotion policy.
