ISLAMABAD: Pakistani investigators probing the suicide car bombing outside the Danish embassy here prepared a sketch of the bomber on Tuesday and uncovered vital clues from video footage obtained from security cameras.

The joint team of police and intelligence officials set up to investigate yesterday's attack, which killed eight people and partially damaged the nearby residence of the Indian High Commissioner, has prepared a sketch of the suicide bomber, a top official said.

Official sources said that vital clues had been found in video footage obtained from security cameras installed in the area around the Danish embassy.

Investigators had been able to pinpoint that a stolen car with fake diplomatic licence plates was used to carry out the bombing, the sources said.

Forensic experts scoured the site of the blast again on Tuesday, searching for clues in the debris outside the embassy and in the compound of a nearby NGO office that bore the brunt of the blast.

Mirza Yaseen, the Additional Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency who is heading the joint investigation team, said a sketch of the suicide bomber had been prepared.

Sleuths had found out that another car had been registered with the same engine and chassis numbers as the vehicle used in the blast. Further inquiries were being conducted into this matter, Yaseen said.

Yaseen also said there were similarities between Monday's attack and two recent suicide bombings in Lahore and Sargodha. The same type of explosives were used in all three attacks.

Officials said the suicide bomber's car was packed with 30 kg of explosives and a large number of ball bearings. They also said that only small pieces of the bomber's body had been found so far.

Meanwhile, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service or PET said that al-Qaeda or one of its affiliates was believed to be behind the attack outside the embassy.

A PET spokesman said the Danish embassy was the "likely" target of the bombing though there were other foreign missions in the area.

The spokesman added that "militant Islamic groups" in Pakistan might also have the "intention and capacity" to attack the Danish targets in this country.

Pakistan witnessed widespread protests in February after Danish newspapers reprinted blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Mohammed.
