Bogus CBI officer held at Nagpur station

YAVATMAL: The Railway police have arrested a bogus CBI officer from Nagpur Railway Station on Tuesday night in a dramatic manner.

The accused confessed to his crime on interrogation and disclosed his identity as Manohar Vithal Gundakwar (45), a resident of Vasant Layout in Umarsara village on the outskirts of Yavatmal.

The Railway police brought Manohar Gundakwar to Yavatmal late yesterday night and handed him over to the Wadgaon Road police under whose jurisdiction Umarsara is situated.

Later, the Wadgaon police accompanied by Nagpur Railway police took the accused to his residence where they conducted a thorough investigation and found costly laptops.

The police also seized gold jewellery, bogus railway journey passes, costly mobile handsets, digital cameras and uniform and a cash of Rs 30,000 from his residence.

The accused is an ex-army man and he used to pose himself as either a CBI officer or a ticket examiner on the running trains as and when the situation so warrants.

Yesterday, he was busy in conversation with the co-passengers in the GT Express at Nagpur Railway Station and the PSI on duty smelt the rat and whisked him away for interrogation.

Initially, the accused gave vague replies, which prompted the cops to have a thorough interrogation and finally it was found that Manohar Gundakwar of Yavatmal is a cheat and he looted the innocent passengers under the guise of a CBI officer.

The Railway police returned to Nagpur today with the accused and further investigation is on.
