Conman, who cheated jewellery shop owners of gold worth Rs1.4 cr, arrested


A gold craftsman who lavished money on bar girls by duping jewellers of Rs1.4 crore has been arrested by the Pydhonie police.

Sushant Pore, 32, was arrested from his hide-out at Vasai on Monday, by a team led by sub-inspector Janardhan Kolekar. Gold weighing over 2kg and worth Rs24 lakh was recovered from him, senior police inspector of Pydhonie police station, Shamsher Khan Pathan, said.

The police said Pore used to visit to ladies’ bars regularly over the past one-and-half-a-years and spent a great deal of money on girls. He in fact had an illicit relation with a bar girl and had even taken her to his native in Kolkata, the police said.

Pore had set up an ornaments-manufacturing unit at Dahisar two-and-a-half years ago. He had 50 artists working in the unit, the police said.

He visited jewellery shops at Zaveri Bazaar offering services at low charges and gradually earned the trust of many shops owners in the area and in Pydhonie. The shop owners started giving him more and more gold for making ornaments.

But in December last year, he allegedly closed down his unit without any notice and fled with gold worth Rs31 lakh he had taken from two shops, said Pathan. The shop owners lodged a complaint with the Pydhonie police.

The police found that Pore had cheating cases registered against him at VP Road and Dahisar in the city and also in Chennai. They raided several places in the city, in Chennai and also his native in Kolkata but could not trace him, Pathan said. They later found him in Vasai, he said.

Pore has been remanded in police  custody for 14 days, the senior police inspector added.
