RR Patil’s brother, posted in a side branch for ten years, says minister refused to give him ‘elite’ posting

MUMBAI: Being the brother of deputy chief minister RR Patil hasn’t paid off for Rajaram Ramrao Patil, a police inspector of Kolhapur. Patil has told DNA that though his elder brother is holding the home portfolio, he has been posted in the side branch for the past ten years.

When Rajaram Patil, a 1987 batch officer, came to receive his Police Medal from governor SM Krishna at the DGP office on Saturday, little did one know that he is the younger brother of RR Patil, who was present at the event. Fifty-nine police officers received the Police Medal, while six received the President’s Medal on Saturday.

Patil, who is attached to the Protection of Civil Rights office at Kolhapur, has been posted in the side branches for past ten years. When asked whether he wants to work in any other elite police branch, he said, “Everyone wants to work in elite branches.”

When asked that since his brother is now holding the Home portfolio, would he request him to post him at some elite police branch, he said, “After my brother became home minister, I had told my mother to request my brother to give me a better posting. My mother spoke to him, but my brother told me that if he transferred me from the side branch, then who will work there?” Patil added that his mother then told him that he can continue doing good work at the side branch.

“My mother told me that, if I was transferred to an elite post, then the mother of the person who will replace me, will also be annoyed,” he said.

He said that he joined the force in 1987, whereas his brother first became an MLA in 1990 and it is for the first time after several years, that three members of his family are together at a function.

“I couldn’t sleep for the past three days. I was very scared when I was receiving my medal. My brother taunts me even if I commit the slightest mistake. We are four brothers and two sisters,” he said in a mild voice.

Being the brother of a minister has not helped him much instead it has hampered his growth. Patil said that he does not even have a two-wheeler and travels in state transport buses to carry investigations. “I see other policemen travelling on motorcycles, but since I don’t have one, I travel in state transport buses to conduct my official duty,” he said. RR Patil, however, refused to comment on the issue.
