MELBOURNE: Wicketkeeping legend Ian Healy has said the aging Adam Gilchrist needed to quickly get back to his set standard or pressure from quality 'keepers at state level would continue to build on him.

"He's set the benchmark. We all know what his standards are. We shouldn't be adjusting our standards to cope with a player that might be ageing. He's got to get back to his standards and he knows that," Healy said.

"He's good enough to maintain and get back to those standards, no question. He can do it tomorrow maybe, he's done all right today - but he's got to do it quickly," he was quoted as saying by the 'Herald Sun'.

Gilchrist's future has become a major issue after his stunning blunder on day one of the fourth Test against India in Adelaide when the champion gloveman grassed an easy catch that should have dismissed VVS Laxman.

Gilchrist on Friday broke South African Mark Boucher's record for most Test dismissals (413) by a gloveman, but the greatest batsmen-wicketkeeper of all time was still under scrutiny in what looms as his final Test on home soil.

"The frustrating thing for him is that it's a long way back, because you're only judged on your mistakes," Healy said.

"He could have a perfect game and catch everything that comes his way, and everyone says, 'You're expected to do that'.  He's got to somehow take some speccy catches so that people notice him in a positive sense - so it's a hard thing to do - and not put another one down."
