World record a tribute to our bowlers, says Gilchrist

ADELAIDE:  Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist Friday attributed his world record of most Test dismissals to the "quality bowlers" he has played with.

"Honestly, it is a tribute to the quality bowlers we have had," said Gilchrist, who effected his 414th dismissal on the second day of the fourth Test against India and broke South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher's record.

Gilchrist, playing his 96th Test, caught Kumble off fast bowler Mitchell Johnson to erase Boucher's record. With this dismissal, Gilchrist's tally reads 377 catches and 37 stumpings.

Gilchrist, however, didn't sound too happy with his performance in the ongoing match.

"Sometimes you go down a bit; I missed one [catch] yesterday. But that is the challenge of Test cricket. We put up with it day in and day out, but getting the record was a huge throw," he said.

Reflecting on the second day's play at the Adelaide Oval, Gilchrist said his side isn't perturbed by India's massive first innings total of 529.

"This has happened to us before. It is pretty much like last year with India putting up more than 500 runs on the board. We feel we can move the game forward. That is the nature of our teams," he said.

In reply, Australia were 62 for no loss by close of the second day.

"We have had a good foundation today. It is important to stay in the game rather than talk of coming back in the game," he said.

Gilchrist admitted that a flourishing batting display by the Indian tail-enders, especially Kumble and Harbhajan Singh who cracked half-centuries, did trouble the Australians.

"Yes, it can get a bit frustrating. But that was the taste of a batting wicket," he said.

Gilchrist also said that Hayden's return to the side has added depth to batting. "Hayden is a steady influence on the team. He along with [Phil] Jacques has given us a good start. It was good effort, and hopefully we can build on that."
