The man who was found dead with bullet injuries in Malad has been identified as an Uttar Pradesh based gangster.

Manju Madhu Yadav alias Virendrakumar's body was found in an open ground in Varnai Vasahat area in Malad (W) with two bullet injuries.

According to the police, Yadav was recently acquitted in the murder case of heart specialist Vasant Jaykar at Khar in 2001. He had allegedly taken a supari of Rs 5,000 from a person whose brother died during treatment at Jaykar's clinic.

Police said that there may be several eyewitnesses to the killing but none of them have come forward. Yadav, a noted contract killer, had two murder cases against him. He had murdered one Munna Singh from his village near Jaunpur over a property dispute.

Yadav was sentenced to life imprisonment by a lower court there after which Yadav had appealed in the High Court against the order. “Yadav was granted bail in December 2006 after which he returned to Mumbai and started staying with his family in Irani wadi area in Kandivali (W),” said a senior police inspector from Malad police station.

“We have recorded the statements of Yadav’s family members, but they do not suspect any one,” he added. Police further added that Jaykar, who was gunned down outside his office in Khar was treating one Bali Siwani for a liver disorder. When Siwani died in 1999, brother, 50-year old Deepak believed that it was the doctor's negligence that caused the death and would threaten him often.

Even as Yadav's involvement is said to be in the Jayakar murder case the police said that Deepak then got in touch with one Ajay Kumar Gupta from UP, who in turn got in touch with Yadav.

Yadav further arranged for one Mukesh Kumar Singh of Varanasi and Jung Bahadur Yadav of Jaunpur, to pull the trigger on Jayakar. Deepak paid Rs 5000 to the murderer for the revolver and Rs 10,000 for the carrying out the crime.
