MMRDA wants to ease pressure on BKC

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning three new business growth centres in Diwanman near Vasai, Newale near Kalyan, and Kanjurmarg, along the lines of the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

The idea was to ensure equal growth of all major pockets in the city, metropolitan commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad said. “We have set up a special planning authority (SPA) to blueprint these business growth centres (BGC) and ensure their execution.”

The Diwanman BGC will be spread across 400 hectares, while those at Newale and Kanjurmarg will be allotted 677 and 615 hectares of land respectively. According to Gaikwad, the MMRDA has set aside Rs100 crore for the development of the new BGCs and a land bank of its own. It is also drafting a proposal that will award an attractive floor space index (FSI) to these growth centres in order to lure corporates. Every centre will be governed by the same development control regulations as the one in Mumbai.

“This will ease pressure on transport, civic and housing infrastructure,” he said, adding that the MMRDA will soon create zonal offices to execute these projects.
