NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Centre on a petition seeking implementation of the Delimitation Commission’s recommendations on re-constituting parliamentary and assembly constituencies.
A bench of chief justice KG Balakrishnan and justice RV Raveendran also issued a notice to the commission on a PIL filed by an NGO, Delhi Study Group, headed by BJP leader Vijay Jolly. Jolly wants a notification on re-defining boundaries of constituencies to be placed before the President for her assent.
Jolly’s lawyer Arun Jaitely stressed the need for re-demarcation of the constituencies saying its imperative for due representation of the citizens who have been denied the right to get elected due to decade-old fixed size of constituencies.
