Slip to 113 all out in their first innings as Vivekanand  increase their lead to 207

MUMBAI: The party is over for the defending champions Rizvi Springfield in this year’s Harris Shield. All dreams ended abruptly at 1.16 pm on Tuesday when their last batsman Rohit Gupta was caught by Atif Aktarwalla at extra cover off left-arm spinner Akshay Sawant, as they were all out in the first innings for 113 in reply to the 170 runs Swami Vivekanand had set in their first innings, at the Azad Maidan.

“It’s all over,”  said Rizvi coach Raju Phatak  while answering phone calls. The slightest chances they had after conceded the lead also disappeared, as the boys from Borivli strengthened their hold on the match. They ended the second day at 150 for three in their second innings.

Surprisingly, there was no celebration from the Swami Vivekanand boys when they had their rivals’ innings rounded up at 113. There was a reason for this. “Cricket is a funny game, anything can happen, and 57 runs is no big deal, there is another day to go,” said the Vivekanand coach Dinesh Lad. Despite this word of caution, it has been an outstanding performance from this side, who graduated into the elite group this year.

‘Full marks to the boys. This is our first year in this group. We topped the plate group last year,” added Lad. After top scoring (63) in his side’s score of 170, Galvi in tandem with left-arm spinner Sawant, rocked Rizvi’s with four wickets apiece.

The other semifinal tie between IES V.N.Sule Guruji and Hansraj Morarji is tantalisingly poised. Sule Guruji, were all out for 259 in their first innings, while the Andheri School were 232 for seven.
