Sena, MNS plan to launch stir over the issue of bogus voter ID cards in Dharavi constituency

State BJP spokesman Madhav Bhandari on Friday demanded cancellation of registration of all new voters during the summary revision of electoral rolls undertaken between August 21 and October 25.

Speaking to newspersons at state party office, Bhandari alleged that with an eye on the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, bogus voters are being registered on a mass scale. Shiv Sena spokesperson and MLC, Neelam Gorhe too declared that the Sena too would launch agitation over the issue.

Stating that the purpose of the summary revision of electoral rolls is to update the voters’ list, Bhandari said in the past two months there has been an abnormal rise in registration of new eligible voters in certain assembly constituencies of Mumbai.

Bhandari pointed out the normal annual demographic rise in population of the country shows an increase of two percent.

Bhandari also pointed out that as per the election laws, the assistant electoral registration officer must intimate any quantum increase in new voters to his higher authorities, if the increase is beyond 0.3 per cent.

“But in case of Mumbai, Election Commission records indicate the increase in new voters at a staggering 4,14,105 voters, which is almost 30 per cent,’’ he added.

As against this, names of only 14,242 voters have been deleted from the electoral rolls.
Bhandari further alleged that this rise is suspicious and totally unnatural.

The state BJP spokesman disclosed that the abnormal increase is noticeable in some assembly constituencies of Trombay, Chembur, Dharavi, Matunga, Nehrunagar and Nagpada.

He further pointed that as per the voters list prior to the publication of the final electoral rolls, the total number of fresh electors was 48,16,150 lakh voters.

When the final list was published the figure swelled to 88,31,801 lakh voters—a phenomenal rise of 4,14,105 lakh voters in two months.

With a rise of 3,74,000 lakh new voters recorded in 19 assembly constituencies of Mumbai alone, it could prove decisive in any future elections.

Apart from lodging a formal complaint with the Maharashtra chief electoral officer Debashish Chakrabarty on Wednesday, the BJP  also plans to take up the matter with the Election Commission.

Threatening to join the stir, MNS’s Mahim vibhagpramukh Yeshwant Kiledar said he had directed his office-bearers to track the developments.
