NANDIGRAM: A four-member team of the National Commission for Women on Thursday visited a relief camp here and spoke to affected women from the troubled areas.

The delegation, led by Malini Bhattacharya, began its tour with a stopover at CRPF's makeshift office in Nandigram police station and spoke to the paramilitary force's DIG Aloke Raj to have an "exact idea" of the ground situation.

The NCW members then went to the relief camp at Brajamohan Tiwari Sikhshayatan and spoke to the women whose husbands had died during the earlier disturbances or were missing after the recent violence.

With tears in their eyes, women like Sreemati Samanta and Krishna Majhi narrated their tales of woes to the NCW members.

"The condition of the women is really pathetic. I'll see to it that they get justice," delegation member Neeva Kanwar said after spending an hour at the camp.

"We've come to speak to the women to know their condition," said Bhattacharya.

The team later left for the affected areas including Satengabari.

Sumitra Chatterjee and Manju Hembram were the other members of the team.
