NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet has cleared the decks for a BJP–JD(S) government in Karnataka by revoking President’s rule in the state.  Acting on the report submitted by Governor Rameshwar Thakur, the home minister advised the cabinet to revoke President’s rule.

The governor is likely to invite the BJP’s BS Yediyurappa to form the next government. This will be the first BJP-led government in South India since Independence. The cabinet’s decision also brings to an end the month-long uncertainty in Karnataka following the collapse of the Kumaraswamy-led government.

The BJP had pulled out of the alliance on October 5 following differences with the JD(S)  over transfer of power. Even now there appears to be some heartburn within the JD(S) and the Gowda family with Kumaraswamy’s brother Revanna, who was a minister in the JD(S) government criticising the party’s decision to support the BJP. The Congress, meanwhile, predicted an early end to the alliance.
