LUCKNOW: Flaying the Mayawati government for its inability to ban Periyar's 'True Ramayan', BJP president Rajnath Singh on Saturday asked party workers 'to go to any extent to stop' its distribution.

"The book should be banned and BJP workers should ensure not even a single copy of the book is sold in the state. You can go to any extent to ensure this," Singh said while addressing the working committee meeting of BJP's state unit here.

"If required, copies of the book can also be burnt," he said reiterating that no body had the right to hurt the sentiments of others in a democratic country like India.

Saying that he could not muster the courage to read such a 'derogatory' book, Singh alleged that it was being distributed among BSP workers.

Training his guns at Chief Minister Mayawati, the BJP president said, "Though she claims to stand for social harmony, Mayawati has expressed her inability to ban it."

Singh also appealed to his party workers to join the Ram Setu agitation being led by the Ram Setu Raksha Manch.

"Though the BJP is not directly leading the agitation to save Ram Setu, all party workers should join it," he said.

He also lamented that people were today questioning the existence of Lord Ram and warned those negating his existence would be 'doomed.'

Criticising the leaders who demand the division of Uttar Pradesh, Singh said, "It was just to serve their political interests."

"It cannot be achieved only because some leaders desire so," Singh said adding several factors like dialect, people's aspirations, besides the ascent of all political parties was required.

There are similar demands for carving smaller states in other parts of the country, he said.

"We ask the Centre to get its viability examined by setting up the State Reorganisation Commission," Singh said.

Earlier, state BJP president Ramapati Ram Tripathi said BJP would never compromise on the issue of Lord Ram and Ram Setu.
