CHENNAI: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa filed a petition on Tuesday in the Madras High Court, seeking a direction to the State Government to ensure her full protection as provided under 'Z Plus' category.

This petition was likely to come up for hearing before Justice K Suguna on Wednesday.

In her petition, Jayalalithaa sought a direction to the State Government to ensure full protection to her at the residence as entitled under the category.

During her tenure as Chief Minister, she had taken 'strong action' against several militant organisations, including LTTE. She had exerted pressure on the then Central Government to declare the LTTE as a banned organisation, she said adding the ban continues even today.

She had declared a war against forest brigand Veerappan, instead of trying to give him "amnesty as was attempted by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi", she claimed and added that Veerappan was killed during her regime in 2004.

She alleged that Karunanidhi was bringing up his son as his sole heir as if a 'monarchy with dynastic succession' was prevalent in the state and has also made him a Minister. He was grooming his son to succeed him as the Chief Minister and in the said process every effort was being made to eliminate her politically so that his son could have an assured future, she claimed.

Jayalalithaa said that after the dissolution of the Ministry headed by Karunanidhi in 1991 and imposition of President's rule, she came from Hyderbad to Chennai. On her arrival, she found that NSG commandos had been assigned to protect her.

Ever since then, the NSG commandos have been protecting her during travel, as she had been placed in the Z Plus security catetory, she added.

She contended that when she demitted office as Chief Minister in 1996 and 2006, the police protection given by the State was reduced to almost 'zero level', though a false claim has been repeatedly made by Karunanidhi and the officials that enough security had been provided for her.

There have been many attempts on her life, she said.

On November 8, 2006, a person was apprehended when he attempted to gain entry into her residence by forcibly dashing his vehicle against the gate of the house. Police claimed he was a mentally retarded person.

On October 16, this year, a stranger entered her house and reached the first floor, coming face to face with the inmates of the house and only a few feet away from her personal room. He was apprehended by her personal staff.

A complaint was lodged against the intruder. Now again, the "same story of his being a mentally retarded person" was being bruited shamelessly, she added.

The cumulative effect of all these incidents can illustrate that her life was in constant danger and the persons who stand to gain by her death were her political adversaries, she contended.
