LUCKNOW: The BSP is a “real estate agent” and its president and UP chief minister Mayawati a “mafia queen”, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh said on Monday.

He also alleged that Mayawati had accumulated huge wealth and assets disproportionate to her known sources of income, and that the BSP was involved in a big land scam. Amar said the SP would organise a rally here on October 24 and soon launch a state-wide agitation “to end this dictatorship”.

The remarks come as a virtual challenge to Mayawati on the eve of the BSP’s proposed mammoth maha sammelan here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the alleged police recruitment scam by the Mulayam government, Amar Singh demanded that additional DG Shailja Kant Mishra, who conducted the inquiry into the matter, should be subjected to a narco test “to expose under what political pressures he wrote that report”. (Mishra has recommended narco tests for guilty police officials and a senior SP leader.)

Amar alleged that the BSP was involved in a huge land scam. “Land worth crores of rupees bought by the BSP in Lucknow has been transferred as donation in the name of (BSP general secretary and cabinet minister) Satish Chandra Misra, Mayawati and her close relatives,” he told reporters.

“More than a political party, the BSP is working like a real estate agent,” he said.
“Mayawati is acting against SP workers like a mafia queen out to eliminate a rival don… It’s as if we are gangsters, not political rivals,” Amar remarked.

He said over 10,000 police cases had been registered against SP men since Mayawati became CM.

Amar also fired the disproportionate assets salvo against the BSP supremo. He said Mayawati had recently deposited Rs14 crore as advance income-tax for only the first quarter of the current financial year.

“This means she would be depositing at least Rs 56 crore income-tax for the year. This would be about 30 per cent of the total, which means her annual earnings work out to nearly Rs200 crore,” he said. (Mayawati has officially declared her assets at a total of Rs 52 crore.)

The SP general secretary described the Mayawati regime as “paagal samrajya” (a crazy government), while referring to the new committee formed to look into the findings of the Shailja Kant Mishra inquiry commission which probed the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of over 22,000 constables between 2005 and 2006. “This government is instituting an inquiry into another inquiry, isn’t this ridiculous?” he said.

Amar also lambasted Mayawati over her so-called “dream project”, the Ambedkar Park, which is being pulled apart to give it a new look and a sturdier structure. “Mayawati reminds me of Mohd bin Tughlaq who first built and then destroyed
the new capital ofTughlaqabad.”
