KOLKATA: Two of the four police officers who had allegedly threatened computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rehman to part with his Hindu wife were on Saturday interrogated by the CID, as the CPI-M said that even senior police officers will not be spared.

The two IPS police officers, DC (Headquarters) Gyanwant Singh and DC DD 1 Ajay Kumar, were questioned for five hours from 7:00 am, CID sources said.

CPI-M patriarch Jyoti Basu had on Saturday said that two of the four police officers, indicating Assistant Commissioner Sukanti Chakraborty and Sub-inspector Krishendu Das, both of the Anti-Rowdy section, had been removed and even Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee might not be spared.

Home Secretary PR Roy, however, had said that no decision had been taken for the removal of the police chief and if necessary, action might be taken against the two IPS officers.

The CID had submitted its interim report in which it failed to come to any conclusion over Rizwanur's death nor did it accuse anyone specifically.

CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose said on Saturday, "Whatever will come up in the enquiry, action will be taken accordingly, irrespective of their positions even if they be IPS officials."

Meanwhile, the dissident Jagmohan Dalmiya lobby on Saturday asked Prasun Mukherjee, Cricket Association of Bengal president, not to preside over the October 8 working committee meeting to allow members 'full freedom' to raise the issue of alleged links of office-bearers with industrialist Ashok Todi, the father-in-law of Rizwanur Rehman.

In a letter to Mukherjee, a prominent leader of the Dalmiya group Biswarup Dey alleged that Ashok Todi was involved in 'cricket betting' in the past.

"Snehasish Ganguly, an assistant secretary of CAB, has already admitted that he knew Todi. He is in fact a director in Todi's company."

"At the same time there are allegations that you (Mukherjee) also helped Todi. So, it will not be proper for you to chair the meeting, because if you preside, the members may not feel free to raise the questions pertaining to the matter," the letter said.

To buttress his point, Dey referred to a working committee meeting of the Association last December, when then CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya did not take the chair as it was scheduled to discuss matters pertaining to allegations against him and his continuance at the helm.

Dey has already demanded the resignation of Mukherjee and Ganguly.

Snehasish, the elder brother of cricket icon Sourav Ganguly, admitted on October 2 that on Todi's request, he had introduced his brother Pradip to Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee.

Rizwanur, a computer grahics teacher, was found dead on railway tracks on September 21 after his marriage on August 18 to Todi's daughter Priyanka.
