We all love Jennifer Aniston. That has never been a secret and is certainly not surprising. So it was but natural that Forbes voted her the most saleable face of the year.

Appearing on every magazine cover, barring one, her face is said to have sold more than five million copies. But what exactly makes this Greek girl, who was teased for being ‘fat’ in college, one of the biggest, yet easy-to-relate-with, star?

Aniston’s career, though now dream-like, started off very rocky. As she didn’t make enough to support herself, she even worked as a telemarketer at one time. But F.R.I.E.N.D.S changed all that.

She went in to audition for the part of Monica Geller, but became a part of TV’s most famous sextet as Rachel Green, the waitress who most women related with, and most men fantasised about. She was smart, sexy, feminine and most of the times, the adorable damsel in distress. She fell in love umpteen numbers of times, got her heart broken and walked over, lost a job and then later bagged the job of her dreams. She finally even had a baby. She did it all, and we were there with her every step of the way, wanting to be her. Wanting to be Rachel. Wanting to be Jennifer Aniston.

When Brad Pitt left her for Angelina Jolie, millions of us cursed the latter. As Star magazine editor Candance Trunzo was quoted saying in Forbes, “She’s the classic wronged woman. I think most women can relate to and empathise with someone that was so in love with a man who, in an incredible Hollywood twist, leaves her for his co-star in a film.”

Yes. She was the dignified wronged woman, who gave interviews about her new movies, talked about her dog, about her friends, but kept silent on the divorce. And yet, surprisingly, still believed in love.

“I still believe in marriage 100 per cent. When I hear people say that they would never do it again, it’s like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Why would you ever close your heart down?” Aniston told Vanity Fair after her divorce.

There has never been an actress so true to the girl-next-door adage. Be it Rachel in Friends or Brooke in The Break-up, Aniston has embodied the ‘girl-next-door’ in full force. And that’s what makes her so saleable. The fact that we all see a bit of us in her. The fact that unlike most stars, Aniston is after all, just human.
