Taj inks pact with Okura

Taj hotels Resorts and Palaces has entered in a marketing alliance with Okura Hotels of Japan in order to promote cross-promotional opportunities of both companies.

MUMBAI: Indian hospitality major Taj hotels Resorts and Palaces has entered in a marketing alliance with Okura Hotels of Japan in order to promote cross-promotional opportunities of both companies.

This will enable the customers from both countries to avail of a slew of benifits in selected hotels of Taj and Okura that comprise reservations from both hotels, travel benefits and mutual exchanges of staff for training.

Speaking on the deal, Okura president Mikio Matsui said though the group is not planning to set up hotels in India in near term, substantial growth in business has been targeted through the alliance.

''We had achieved consolidated revenue of USD 515 million in the fiscal just ended and are eying a significant expansion in business in near future through the strategic alliance.''

Okura group runs 24 hotels, wherein 17 are located in Japan while Taj's list include 77 hotels both in domestic and international locations.

The alliance also intends promotional events like trade shows, sales events, niche marketing programmes and culinary promotions. On the other side Taj group is learned to have huge expansion plans on cards mainly in Middle-East, which will come in 2-3 years as per which the group would set up 5-6 hotels in Middle East.
 
''Our fresh offices in Doha and Abu Dhabi would soon start functioning. Given the rampant expansion of business in global hospitality secor, we will constantly be looking for new area of operations across the globe,'' said Raymond Bickson, Managing director of Taj hotel resorts and palaces.
 
In a ceremony held in Taj here on Tuesday, Mr Bickson signed the agreement with Okura chief Matsui
