PM to present Homi Bhabha Gold Medals in Mumbai on Friday

MUMBAI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will present Homi Bhabha Gold Medals to the toppers among graduates of the 50th batch of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)'s Training School on Friday at a function here.

The PM will also felicitate the toppers from first batch to the 45th batch during the Annual Graduation Ceremony, S Banerjee, Director, BARC, said.

The premier research agency's school trains engineering graduates, post-graduates and science post-graduates for one year as the main Human Resource Development programme of the Department of Atomic Energy.

BARC has concluded its golden jubilee celebrations in January this year.

The function will be attended by several former BARC stalwarts, including former chairpersons of Atomic Energy Commission H N Sethna, P K Iyengar and M R Srinivasan will also felicitate toppers in various subjects from first to 45th batch.

"We have invited several scientists who topped during their training period as well as in their career in the Department of Atomic Energy," Banerjee said.

"They will be felicitated, after which they will present their reminiscences to the young graduates to motivate them as they are the caretakers of India's future nuclear programme."

Earlier in the day, the PM, on a day-long visit to the state tomorrow, will dedicate two 540 MW indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) to the nation at Tarapur near here.
