CHENNAI: In her first reaction to Tamil Nadu Government's decision to start a state-owned cable TV Corporation, AIADMK Supremo Jayalalithaa on Saturday said it was a result of the 'quarrel' between the sons of DMK chief M Karunanidhi and his grand nephews.

In a statement, Jayalalithaa said when she had brought a bill in the state assembly in 2006 to nationalise the operations of Multi-System Operators', Karunanidhi, along with the then Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran rushed to Raj Bhavan here and asked the Governor not to give his nod to the bill.

One of the first steps taken by the DMK government, when it came to power, was to withdraw the bill, she said adding due to "sudden wisdom" the state has decided to float the corporation.

Jayalalithaa said Karunanidhi had even alleged that the Sumangali Cable Vision, owned by Maran brothers, has planned the interrupt the operations of the state-owned corporation to further its 'monopoly'.

Karunanidhi's allegation that the Maran brothers had intimidated the cable TV opertors was quite "funny".

"One should ponder over how the brothers would have acted when they had powers with them", she said.

If the government has decided to float the corporation as a revenue-generation measure, it should have done earlier and not after the family feud, she said.

The government's measure was only to ensure the perfect telecast of the proposed 'Kalaignar TV', being floated by 'some DMK men', she said.

She demanded that the DMK government should reintroduce bill brought by her government earlier to nationlise the operations of Multi-System Operators.
