BRISTOL: England captain Paul Collingwood faced a ban for a slow over-rate following his side's nine-run defeat against India in the second one-day international here at Nevil Road.

Collingwood, accompanied by England coach Peter Moores and team manager Phil Neale, attended a post-play hearing on Friday conducted by Roshan Mahanama, the match referee.

England took 40 minutes longer than their permitted three-and-a-half hours to complete their 50 overs, having been seven overs short at the cut-off point.

Under the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct Collingwood could be banned for a maximum of two one-day internationals or fined between 50-100 percent of his match fee.

There were some mitigating circumstances, however, with the start of India's innings disrupted by repeated movements behind the bowler's arm and star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who made 99 in India's total of 329 for seven, having lengthy treatment on his left hand.

"The nature of the innings with so many boundaries being scored and with various stoppages for one thing or another was always going to mean that the innings was going to be longer than usual," Collingwood said.

"Ultimately, however, it didn't seem to detract from what was a fantastic game of cricket."

An England spokesman said Mahanama's findings would be released by the ICC.

India's victory saw them draw level at 1-1 in the seven-match series. The third one-day international is at Birmingham's Edgbaston ground on Monday.
