25 prisoners of Tihar jail released for good conduct

NEW DELHI: As the country celebrated its 61st independence day on Wednesday, 25 convicts of the Tihar Jail here were released for good conduct.

The jail also remitted the prison terms of many inmates who have good conduct in the jail.

"We released 25 convicts, including a woman, who were serving sentences for varied terms. Besides, remission of prison terms was announced to benefit a large number of prisoners," a senior jail official said on Wednesday.

The prisoners serving sentences of up to one year would get remission of 15 days and those facing imprisonment of one to five years would get remission of 30 days.

Those serving sentences for more than five years would get remission for 45 days, the official said.

At the flag hoisting function in the jail, Director General BK Gupta addressed the prisoners, jail staff and security personnel and highlighted the development and reform activities undertaken in the jail in the past year.

Several entertainment programmes were organised in the jail on the occasion. Special food, including sweets, was served to the inmates also.
