Lt Col Rajyavardhan Rathore is India’s only Olympic silver medallist. With the true perspective of one who has competed at the highest level, he would not like to pick any single achievement as the defining moment for Indian sport over the last 60 years.

“All the great achievements of the past have been moments of pride for the nation and have given great joy to us Indians. However, I would not pick any as the defining one. That moment is yet to come,” says Rathore.

“Every victory serves as motivation for others and by itself spurs possible encores. It makes the country proud and gives heart to all the others striving to achieve the same.

I cannot cast my vote in favour of just one. At their time each great win has been most important. Further I would not like to judge my own Olympic silver in comparison to others. I am just glad that I could achieve that feat.”

Rathore also feels that the primary purpose of each victory has been to take Indian sport one step higher. “All such moments have given a sense of urgency to the emergence of Indian sport.

But none have revolutionised it. The one achievement that manages to do so will be considered the most defining moment of glory.”
