Sonia Gandhi hands over chader to be placed at Ajmer Sharif

NEW DELHI: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday handed over the 'chader' to be placed at the dargah of Sufi saint Hazarat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti on the occasion of the annual urs in Ajmer to a delegation lead by Union Minister of State for Communication Minister Shakeel Ahmad.

"The annual Urs is an occasion of great significance in the calender of the faithful who belong to all faiths and religions and are united in their reverence to Him and His teachings. No better example of the spiritual unity of the Indian people can be cited," she said in a message on the occasion.

"I would like to remind that egalitarian practises are a feature of the Sufi tradition," she added.
