A 27-year-old man has allegedly murdered another man whom he suspected to have an affair with his girlfriend. Ramesh Singh, a tobacco dealer from Mulund, was arrested on Monday after he allegedly confessed to killing 24-year-old Shashikant Thakkar.

According to the Singh’s statement, he had an affair with Charmi Savla for the last five years. A few days ago, he came to know that Thakkar was also in love with Savla and had been meeting her often. This enraged Singh and on June 19, he kidnapped Thakkar from Mulund and took him to Kalwa. “After taking Thakkar to Kalwa, Singh strangulated Thakkar and dumped his body in the mangroves,” an officer said. When Thakkar didn’t return home on June 19, his family filed a missing complaint in the Mulund police station.

During investigation, the Mulund police came to know that Savla, a teacher in Bhandup, was a close friend of Thakkar as well. The police questioned Savla and she told the police that she was having an affair with Singh and was also a close friend of Thakkar. “Based on the information given by Singh, a police team was sent to Kalwa and Thakkar’s body was recovered,” police inspector ND Kokare said.
