MADURAI: Rejecting AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa's charge that there was frequent power cuts in the state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday said the state infact had surplus power and selling the same to Punjab and Maharashtra.
Talking to reporters here, Karunanidhi, accompanied by Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy, attributed the power cuts and fluctuation to the shortage of transformers in some localities.
There was a shortage of 14,000 transformers during the previous AIADMK regime and the then government had not addresssed the issue, he claimed.
Stating that his government had already procured 8,000 transformers and that another 7,000 would be bought before December this year, he assured that there would not be any interruption in power supply after that.
