ISLAMABAD: The speaker of the Pakistani National Assembly has forwarded the disqualification reference filed by the legislators of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) against cricketer turned politician Imran Khan to the Election Commission for further action. The reference is based on the Sita White scam and a decision by the ECP is likely in next 90 days.

As the National Assembly speaker made public his decision during proceedings on Wednesday, the opposition parties reacted strongly and created uproar in the Assembly. Reacting to the government’s apparent move to disqualify Imran, the opposition parties held an emergency meeting in the Assembly premises and decided to file two disqualification references against President Prevez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz under the same Articles (62 and 63) of the Constitution for loose moral characters.

The disqualification reference against Musharraf will be based on the confessions he has made in his auto biography 'In the Line of Fire', about his pre-marriage love affair with a Bengali girl.

The other reference against Shaukat Aziz will be based on the revelations made by the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in her book, saying that Shaukat gave her indecent looks and gestures during her last year visit to Pakistan.

While accusing Imran Khan of committing adultery and fathering an illegitimate child from his ex-girlfriend, Sita White, the reference states: “Under the 1973 Constitution, a member of Pakistani Parliament has to declare in his/her nomination form submitted with the Election Commission that he has sound moral values, which Imran failed to fulfil.

The Los Angeles superior court on July 30, 1997 had declared that Imran was the father of Tyrian Jade, the daughter of Anna Louise, alias Sita White, and that Tyrian was born out of the wedlock. The court wrote in its verdict that the defendant (Imran Khan) was the father of the minor child (Tyrian Jade), born on June 18, 1992.

We have got complete record of the Los Angeles court proceedings which shows that Imran Khan had never challenged the Los Angeles Court’s verdict which means that he had indirectly conceded having committed adultery. This subsequently disqualifies him from being elected as a member of the National Assembly for having violated Articles 62 and 63 of the 1973 Constitution”.
