Munir Ahmed and two of his accomplices, who helped him get the Indian passport, were convicted under various provisions of the IPC and the Indian Passports Act.
NEW DELHI: A Pakistani national has been held guilty by a court here for obtaining Indian passport on the basis of fake identity documents.
The court has convicted Munir Ahmed, at present in judicial custody, and two of his accomplices, who helped him get the Indian passport and will announce the quantum of punishment on June 18.
His accomplices -- Munney Khan and Manish Chaudhary --have been convicted under various provisions of the IPC and the Indian Passports Act.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau ordered the arrest of Munney and Manish, who were out on bail in the case, registered on March 15, 2001.
Munir, in 2003, was convicted under various provisions of the Official Secrets Act by a Jaipur court for leaking defence secrets to his Pakistan-based bosses.
As per the prosecution, Munir, a native of Chak in Rahimyakhan, Pakistan, sneaked to India through Nepal borders in 1997 and stayed for some time at Tundla in Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Later, he changed his name as Mahendra Singh Chaher and came to Delhi and came in close contacts with co-accused Munney and Chaudhary, an official working with a Gurgaon-based Citi Land Travels.
Munir, who was earlier convicted in an espionage case by a Jaipur court, had entered India through Nepal in 1997 and procured an Indian passport from Delhi office on a fictitious name.
Munir applied for the passport at Delhi office and submitted fake ration card and other documents.
He got the passport issued. Later, a case under various sections including 419 (cheating), 471(using forged documents as genuine) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC was lodged against them.
They were also booked under the Indian Passport Act.
