Salem in Mumbai for appearance in blast case

The extradited gangster was scheduled to appear before the court on June 7 but could not do so as he was in the custody of Delhi Police.

MUMBAI: Extradited gangster Abu Salem was brought to the city on Monday morning from New Delhi for appearance before the Special TADA court in connection with the 1993 serial blasts case.

Salem's judicial custody was extended till June 29 in the serial blasts case. He was scheduled to appear before the court on June 7 but could not do so as he was in the custody of Delhi Police.

The gangster was taken to the high security Arthur Road Jail, his lawyer Ashok Sarogi said.

A Delhi court had remanded him to judicial custody till July 2 in connection with an extortion case and Salem was since lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail.

In the serial blasts case, Salem is charged with distribution of arms and ammunition to other accused including film actor Sanjay Dutt.
