MELBOURNE: After being on the sidelines for more than three months, Australian speedster Brett Lee is aiming for an international comeback in the inaugral Twenty20 cricket World Cup following the successful completion of his first sprint session since picking up an ankle injury.

Lee, who tore his ankle ligaments in February, which forced him out of the World Cup in the West Indies, said he did not have any trouble during the running session on Wednesday.

"I'm really happy with how it's going. I actually ran much further this week than I was going to because it felt good," Lee was quoted as saying by the 'Sydney Morning Herald' on Thursday.

The tearaway pacer said he was confident of being match fit for the Twenty20 World Cup, which starts September 11 in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Cricket New South Wales is planning to rope in retired great Glenn McGrath as the bowling coach of the side.

Blues Chief Executive Dave Gilbert said he would be meeting McGrath next month to try and convince him to take up the job.

"We have been mindful of giving him a bit of breathing space since his retirement, but we are definitely keen to get him on board," Gilbert said.

"He has so much knowledge and experience that younger players could benefit from, and we're hopeful that he is willing to pass that on," he added.
