AMRITSAR: The anniversary of Operation Blue Star was observed on Wednesday by the Akal Takht, the supreme spiritual and temporal body of Sikhs, but no provocative speeches for a separate Sikh State were made.
 
Jathedar of the Akal Takht Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti condemned the army action launched on June 6, 1984 saying, "the then Government had sent the Army to Golden
Temple to ruin the sanctity."
 
Vedanti also lauded the slain militant leader Sant Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale and described him as a "martyr of the entire Sikh Panth (religion)".
 
The family members of several Sikh leaders killed in the Operation were honoured at the Akal Takht today.Earlier a religious prayer was performed at Akal Takht and the Operation Blue Star condemned.
 
On June 6, 1984 the Army launched the operation to flush out militants from Golden Temple.
