AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat CID probing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case has issued a lookout notice for one of its own officers whose role is under scanner, a source in the agency said here on Wednesday.

The lookout notice was issued on Tuesday evening after Gujarat CID team that raided his bunglow in the city did not find him there, the source said.

The official under scrutiny, NK Amin, is a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the CID and worked previously under DG Vanzara, the senior most IPS officer arrested in the fake encounter case.

Though sources in the agency indicated that the CID team went to Amin's house with the intention to arrest him, senior officials refused to speak on the matter when contacted.

Though Amin was not part of Gujarat's Anti-Terrorist Squad that was involved in the fake encounter as he was with the crime branch, CID officials are probing his role based on the statement of one of the arrested policemen who claimed that he was present when Kausar Bi, Sohrabuddin's  wife's, body was disposed of a few days after he was killed.

Amin was almost arrested a few days ago but the CID team led by the supervising officer Geetha Johri did not do so for some reason.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police also appeared before mediapersons a few days ago and claimed ignorance regarding his role in the fake encounter case and said his name was being dragged into it.

The CID has so far arrested six policemen, three IPS officers (including one from Rajasthan) and three officials of from the Gujarat ATS.

Among the arrested IPS officers include D G Vanzara, his deputy in the ATS Rajkumar Pandian and Rajasthan Cadre officer Dinesh M N. They were taken into custody on April 24.

The Sohrabuddin encounter was conducted by a joint team of ATS and Rajasthan police on November 26, 2005 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad and his wife Kausar Bi is suspected to have been killed a few days later by the same group of policemen.

Arrest warrants were issued on May 28 against five policemen, including three from Rajasthan, as they have not responded to CID's summons.
