KARACHI: A Pakistan Cricket Board official on Sunday said it was losing patience with the "wild accusations and speculations" surrounding the probe into the death of Pakistan's coach Bob Woolmer and would like to see the case reach a conclusion as soon as possible.

The official was asked for his comments on reports in the Jamaican newspaper, 'The Sunday Gleaner' that Woolmer might have died of a heart attack and another report in the "Sunday Telegraph" saying police believe that the email, where Woolmer said he would stand down as coach and which he sent to the PCB Chairman, was faked by his killers.

"We can understand the distress these type of unsubstantiated stories and statements might be causing Woolmer's family. Because we ourselves are totally distressed at the way the entire issue has been handled," the official said on condition of anonymity.
He also criticised Pervez Mir, who was Pakistan's media manager in the World Cup for his unending statements and expert opinion on Woolmer's death.

Mir was again in action on a private television channel for commenting on the report that Woolmer had died of a heart attack. He said the PCB should demand a public apology from the Jamaican investigators for poorly mishandling the case and causing distress to the Pakistani team and nation.

"Again he is jumping the gun and speaking too much. As far as the Board is concerned we have got no indication as yet from anyone that either Woolmer might have died of a heart attack or that his email sent to us is being looked at suspiciously," the official said.

Woolmer died on March 18 in a hospital in Kingston, Jamaica one day after Pakistan had lost to Ireland and were eliminated from the World Cup.

"It is now nearly two months since the tragic incident and we sincerely hope the investigators can soon give us a logical conclusion to this entire case as to how Woolmer died and put this matter to rest," the official said.
