UJJAIN: A court issued summons to Himanshu Sabharwal, son of late Professor H S Sabharwal, on charges of contempt of court and directed him to appear before it on May 10.

The petition was filed by advocate Pandit Yogesh Vyas following the reported reaction of Himanshu in TV channels few days back against the functioning of the judiciary which amounts to contempt of court.

After hearing the petition, District and Session Judge, Anil Kumar Sharma issued summons to Himanshu directing him to appear in the court on May 10.

Vyas told the court that though Himanshu claimed before the media that he will not appear in the court as he does not have faith in its functioning, his lawyer has moved an application in the court citing ill-health as the ground for non-appearance on that day.

Himanshu was to appear before the court as witness, but he did not turn up when the hearing in the case was going on.

However, Himanshu said that every citizen has a right to criticise the court's judgement and in the present case also he has not said anything which amounts to contempt of court.

Professor Sabharwal died after he was allegedly manhandled by the ABVP leaders on August 26 last year following the cancellation of Madhav College students union elections.
