Reports of Musharraf-Bhutto deal disturbing: Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Terming the reports of a deal between President Pervez Musharraf and PPP leader Benazir Bhutto as 'very disturbing', deposed Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said such a development can derail the whole country in the prevailing political situation.

The PML(N) leader said any deal with General Musharraf by any party would be against the interests of the country.

He said under the Charter of Democracy he signed with Bhutto last year they cannot even entertain any emissary of a military dictator leave alone striking a deal with a uniformed general.

Addressing a press conference in London on Wednesday, he said it is not good for the country if anyone talks of or strikes a deal with a military general in Pakistan.

However, he said he would not believe in the reports unless Bhutto herself admits to the same, local media here reported.

The issue of the reported deal would be discussed by the PML(N) and PPP, he said.

Asking all opposition parties to shun their differences, he said they should form a grand alliance to show the military generals the door.

"Everybody should work to rid the country of military dictatorship as it has hurt the country's interests," he said adding all political forces must work in unison for the restoration of 'genuine democracy' in the country.
