LONDON: Kate Middleton, girlfriend of Britain's Prince William, has complained to Britain's press watchdog about a photograph in a tabloid newspaper on Thursday.

The picture in the Daily Mirror showed Middleton glancing over her shoulder as she walked in the street holding a coffee.

Middleton said the photograph was taken as a result of harassment, a Press Complaints Commission spokesman said. The commission will investigate.

The photograph was accompanied by a caption suggesting "stony-faced Kate" was about to scold William after he was pictured with other women in night clubs.

William, elder son of heir to the throne Prince Charles, and Middleton, both 24, met when they were students at St. Andrews University in Scotland.

Lawyers for Middleton have written to newspaper editors urging restraint after a spate of rumours the couple would announce their engagement soon.
