DANIA BEACH: An accidental overdose caused last month's sudden death of former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith, Florida officials said on Monday.

The death of the flamboyant billionaire's widow at a Florida casino-hotel on Feb. 8 triggered a media frenzy and bitter legal feud over her remains and the custody of her 6-month-old daughter, Dannielynn, who could one day inherit millions.

"We are convinced ... that this case is an accidental overdose with no other criminal elements present," Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger told reporters.

"We have reviewed hundreds of hours of video, tape captured by the hotel security cameras and we found nothing unusual," he said.

He added there was no evidence of illegal drugs at the scene.

Tiger said a laptop belong to the model's boyfriend Howard Stern similarly revealed "nothing to indicate any foul play."

There was no evidence of illegal drugs in her body, said Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perper, who gave a detailed account of the events leading up to her death that included her temperature at various times and the medication she took.

Smith was buried on March 2 after a colorful funeral whose guests included her longtime companion and lawyer Howard K. Stern, who is listed as Dannielynn's father, and Los Angeles photographer Larry Birkhead, who also claims paternity.

Several other men also claimed to be the father of Dannielynn. The results of a DNA swab of the child have been placed under seal by a judge in the Bahamas, pending an appeal against the DNA test by Stern.

The autopsy result is the latest tragic chapter in the life of Smith, who is buried in the Bahamas alongside her son Daniel, 20, who died in the Bahamas of a drug overdose just months before his mother's death.

The buxom centerfold model had become rich after her marriage to an elderly, wheelchair-bound billionaire oil magnate, and achieved even greater fame as the protagonist in a bizarre TV reality show.

Since her death, survivors have battled over custody of her body, her infant daughter, as well as control of her multi-million dollar estate.
