AHMEDABAD: The placement season is over and they’ve done it again. Keeping up the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad’s tradition of breaking records, multi-million dollar salaries are raining again as placements for the institute’s flagship Post-Graduate Programme concluded on Monday.

The grapevine on the campus was abuzz with students who have bagged domestic offers of over Rs 60 lakh per annum and international pay packages exceeding $250,000. Grinning from ear to ear, professors and students are believed to be happier than ever before. Nearly 57 per cent of the batch has work experience, 16 per cent of them exceeding two years. This is also believed to be one of the main reasons for the substantial hike in salaries offered.

The overall average salaries were expected to rise by 30 per cent over last year; the average salary rise was 23 per cent previous year. This hike is believed to be higher than any previous year and other IIMs as well.

“India is all over and Indian companies are all over,” said Prof Piyush Sinha, faculty coordinator for PGP placements. International companies looking to establish their presence in India was the flavour of the season. The highest salaries are believed to have come from MNCs’ eyeing a major presence in Asia.

“Every company is looking at Asia as a big market and they are looking for efficient assistance. More than the overall economy boom, we believe these companies have realised the value our graduates provide them,” Sinha told DNA on Monday evening even as final offer letters were coming in.

Around 120 companies visited the campus and most of the students were placed within the first two days. Unlike other IIMs, IIM-A has not embarked on a policy to keep salary details under wraps and will announce details today.
