Sensex ends 64 points down

MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by over 64 points on selling by funds in heavyweight Information Technology and Oil and Gas sector stocks.

The 30-share-index (Sensex), which had lost nearly 150 points on Wednesday, dropped by another 64.89 points, or 0.46 per cent, at 14,188.49 points as foreign funds and retail investors pressed increased selling toward the middle of the session in Information Technology, Oil and Gas and PSU sector stocks.

Earlier, it recovered to day's high of 14,312.88 points.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty ended lower by 10.75 points at 4,096.20, after touching an intra-day high of 4,132.80 points.

The major contributors to the fall were IT index, which dropped by 95.25 points at 5,438.58 points and Oil and Gas index by 41.07 points at 6,642.36.

However, Metal index ended 85.28 points higher at 8,950.28, cushioning the fall in the Sensex.
