After an unusually hot Sunday, parts of the city, particularly suburbs like Goregaon, Malad, Borivili on the western side, and Kanjurmarg and Bhandup on the Eastern side, witnessed a cool shower early on Monday morning.

The city also witnessed cloudy weather throughout the day on Monday. “The upper circulation over Kutch and adjoining areas, extending between 0.9 to 2.1 kilometres above sea level and resulted in clouding in the skies,” explained an official at the Regional Meteorological Center at Colaba.

This type of rainfall is called ‘isolated rain’, and it often occurs early in the morning and not during the rest of the day, the official explained.

However, such a phenomenon is not unusual this time of the year. Instances of ‘isolated rain’ were also recorded in March 2006, he added.

According to the meteorological department forecast, it will continue to be cloudy for another 24 to 48 hours. Apart from the city, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat too will receive isolated rainfall in the next 24 hours.
