LONDON: Bollywood babe Shilpa Shetty may suddenly be thrown out of the ‘Big Brother’ house tomorrow in a surprise eviction just seven days after she entered the reality show.

Shilpa, who became the first Bollywood star to participate in the original British reality show, is up for eviction by a public vote that closes Wednesday evening along with four other housemates.

Neither she nor the other members of the house are aware that the programme organisers have arranged this surprise eviction. The rules of the show are such that housemates are not allowed any contact with the outside world.

The Mumbai actress is up against housemates Jermaine Jackson, pop singer and brother of the icon Michael Jackson, and the notorious Goody family comprising recent celebrity Jade, her boyfriend Jack and Jade’s mother Jackiey who were introduced into the house four days ago in a surprise twist by the organisers.

Jade and her family’s claim to fame is that they are shockingly stupid and crass.

Shilpa has already had a run in with Jackiey over her bad treatment of the other housemates and Jackiey not being able to pronounce Shilpa’s name correctly.

The argument descended into Jackiey using abusive language. However the tenor of the programme is such that the public often votes to keep in housemates who are cruder and more aggressive as it “creates better TV”.

Shilpa is suffering from the handicap that the non-Asian population of Britain, which makes up most of the viewership, are not even aware of who she is.

The programme is also more popular among the white working class who identify with the Goody family and are more likely to vote to keep them in the programme.

Shilpa’s betting stakes to win the game were not bad at the start of the programme and before the Goody family were introduced. They have dropped since she has come up against Jackiey.

The only comments Shilpa has received so far from viewers are that she is ‘beautiful’ and ‘graceful’, but her attempts to not rise to Jackiey’s behaviour is being seen as ‘false and manipulative’ and even ‘bitchy’.

‘Big Brother’, whose TRP rating have dropped over the last seven years, brought the Bollywood babe into the game in order to increase their viewership among the Asian community in the UK.

Now only the Asian community can save Shilpa if they vote in droves for her stay in the house.

Bedroom superstitions: Has Feng Shui helped Shilpa?

“It’s a fact that most people follow Feng Shui — my bedroom also has been designed keeping certain directions in mind. Even when we did up our store some 10 years ago, we incorporated several elements of vaastu and feng shui. I feel it has contributed positive energy to the environment. If you can do it, what is the harm?  -- Maheka Mirpuri, designer

“I do follow some Feng Shui tips and one of them is not to sleep in front of a mirror. But in the ‘Big Boss’ house we had no choice because there were mirrors all around us. But I kept going for 45 days. The British version is for 23 days — I think it’s a cakewalk. And if you’re going to decide everything by Feng Shui, you’ll go bonkers.” -- Anupama Verma, actor
