BANGALORE: In the wake of fresh terror threats to techies in Bangalore, cops have decided to train security personnel of IT companies in the city to tackle possible terror attacks.

According to Police commissioner N Achuta Rao, he is in the process of formalising plans with several IT companies in the city. Cops arrested a suspected terrorist last week, who was allegedly planning an attack on Infosys, Wipro and the city airport.

"We have informally spoken to a couple of IT companies and have asked them to beef up the security, not only in terms of additional checks and increasing the number of security personnel, but also by installing intrusion detectives for their safety," a senior police official told DNA.

Earlier, police only sent an advisory note to companies asking them to strengthen the security. "But this time, we are looking at the issue more seriously. The private security personnel are not trained to handle a terrorist attack. Our staff will train them to handle an armed person," the official added.

Wipro has already enhanced its security system in terms of monitoring employees, vehicles and curbing unauthorised entry. "We will co-operate with the police in their plans," said a Wipro official. However, according to an Infosys official, the company is not in the hit list. "It's only a speculation," he said.

" Interrogations have revealed that the suspect is from Jammu and Kashmir and he is associated with the Lashkar-e-Toeba," Rao said. Imran Bilal, the suspect, is said to have joined the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in 1990 and went for arms training to Muzzaffarbad in the POK. He met Abu-Al Kalama, the top man of the Lashkar-e-Toeba in Pakistan, police said. Abu-Al Kalama runs militant training centres in Pakistan, police added.
