All cricketers on national duty in South Africa have been told to play the final Ranji games.

MUMBAI: The Indian team will have little rest on its return from its South African safari. Soon after arrival, the cricketers will have to play in the Ranji Trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has told all the cricketers currently on national duty to turn out for the Ranji matches of their respective state sides.

The team is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai on January 7 after the last Test in Cape Town, which begins tomorrow. The final Ranji league matches begin at different centres on January 10.

“It is mandatory; every player will have to play the Ranji matches,” BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told DNA.

Shah refused to speculate if the board would relax the requirement for any player. He said even captain Rahul Dravid has been told to turn out for his state team Karnataka, which takes on Saurashtra at Rajkot from January 10. Sachin Tendulkar will play his first match for Mumbai in a long time against Maharashtra at Nashik.

Shah said the 30 probables for the World Cup and the team for the first two matches of the ODI series against the West Indies will be selected at Rajkot on January 12.

The board has to announce the list of probables for the Cup by January 13. The final list of 14 players has to be declared by February 13. The tournament begins in the Caribbean on March 10.

India play the first of their four matches against the West Indies on January 21 at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. The second match will be played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
