NEW YORK: The remains of two more people killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York have been identified, officials said on Thursday, amid a lingering row over how the recovery of remains was handled.

The two were identified as Karen Martin, a 40-year-old flight attendant on board one of the hijacked planes that were crashed into the World Trade Center, and 54-year-old passenger Joel Stone, the New York medical examiner said.

Their identification was not related to a widened search being carried out at the site of the attacks ever since body parts, some as large as leg bones, were found by a construction worker during a routine excavation last month.

The grisly discovery angered victims' families, who were to rally in downtown New York on Thursday to demand the proper recovery and burial of their loved ones' remains.

Five years on, the remains of more than 1,100 of the 3,000 people killed in the atrocity have yet to be identified.
