KOTTAYAM (Kerala): Andrew Wallace, the Australian-born surgeon, who operated upon cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's shoulder, on Monday married his colleague Susan Alexander from this Kerala district.

The marriage ceremony was solemnised at the Pathamutam Sleeba Church of the Syrian Orthodox Church here and witnessed by more than 100 friends and relatives from Britain and Australia.

From the bride's side, it was a restricted affair with only close relatives.

Wallace hails from Sydney and Susan from Pathamutam. They have known each other for two years.

Thomas P. Zachariah, vicar of the Sleeba Church, said Wallace became a member of the Orthodox Church and on Saturday both of them made the customary confession and attended the Sunday mass at the church.

"The marriage was conducted according to the customs of the Orthodox Church of India and was solemnised by Abraham Thomas, vicar of the London parish of the Orthodox Church. Also present was a priest from London," said Zachariah.

"The marriage mass was held in English while the hymns were in Malayalam," said the parish vicar.

Thanks to the marriage function, the parish parsonage of the church as well as its interiors got a major facelift.

Wallace led an eight-member team performing surgery on Tendulkar earlier this year in London. The 35-year-old Susan, also an orthopaedic surgeon, was a part of the team.

Susan's father MS Alexander is a fellow of the London Royal College of Psychiatry and works at the St James University Hospital, Leeds.
