With Diwali round the corner, all channels are getting aggressive in getting new programmes in primetime slots. With ‘Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann’, Zee TV is attacking one of the two most crucial time slots of 10 pm, where the long running soap ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki’ and ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ is playing on Star Plus.

And who becomes the fall guy? Their oldest (14 years) and most successful property, ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, gets the shove, just a few weeks before it’s finale. With this week’s elimination, just four kids remain to fight the title of ‘L’iL Champs’.

For years, viewers have been glued on to the various formats of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ on Thursdays and when it was made bi-weekly, it’s been on air on Thursdays and Fridays. Starting this week, the current series ‘L’iL Champs’ will now be seen on Fridays and Saturdays.

Director of the show Gajendrra Siingh says he was surprised when he first saw the hoardings of ‘Betiyaan..’ stating that it will be aired Monday to Thursday, 10 pm time slot and adds, “I was not notified and only saw it across hoardings of ‘Betiyaan..’ last Sunday. The channel must have good reasons for the change in schedule. Only, my creative team has been working overnight at incorporating the change of day in our script and we are now ready for the change in schedule.”

Tarun Mehra, marketing head Zee TV, refuted that the decision to move ‘L’iL Champs’ had anything to do with the new celebrity dance show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ (Sony) which is aired at 10 pm on Wednesday and Thursday. “This has not been an ad hoc decision and is part of a long time strategy to introduce soaps on weekdays. Besides, ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ has always been on Fridays and Saturdays so we have gone back to our original schedule. ‘Jhalak..’ is no competition and the ratings prove it.”

The show to be aired this Saturday has Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla as a special guest. “Her love for music is well known and being a regular viewer of our show, she knew all the participants by name and had many words of encouragement for each of them. She gave in to the participants request of singing a song at the end of the show,” signs off Gajendrra.
