Prez Kalam's website registers record hits

NEW DELHI: President A P J Abdul Kalam's official website has created a history of sorts - it registered 2.4 million hits on Tuesday, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué said.

"The highest number of hits was on Sep 12, which was 24 lakhs (2.4 million). According to the National Informatics Centre NIC, this is the highest in a day for any government website," the statement said.

During the month of August, the website (www.presidentofindia.nic.in) recorded 12.7 million hits.

The maximum number of hits on a single day was Aug 15 with 1.12 million hits.

"The average monthly hits on the website during 2006 is about 9.5 million," the statement said.

The president's portal is a huge hit with people, especially children. There are sections like "write to the president" and "children's corner", in which anybody can pose questions.
