Debuting with Shyam Benegal’s ‘Kalyug’ and later seen in Sagar Sarhadi’s ‘Bazar’ in the 80s, Supriya Pathak was an actor who promised a meaningful innings. Post her marriage to actor Pankaj Kapur, the daughter of the late actor Dina Pathak cut down her workload and opted for TV. Winning much acclaim for her comic ease in shows, ‘Khichdi’ and ‘Ba Bahu aur Baby’, Supriya is the small screen’s much loved face.

Interestingly, Supriya will now feature in a special episode of the sitcom ‘Naya Office Office’ (Star One) with husband Pankaj (Musaddilal). “I am there for just one episode. I will play a character who will also be the victim of the mishaps in the office. My role is louder and emphatic than usual. I will be wearing a shalwar kameez.”

Ask her why she has stayed away from soaps and she says, “It becomes difficult to do weeklies as I need to be with my children.” She adds, “The work pressure in a daily is much. There is no time to etch out characters.” She adds, “I must agree with the role. As actors, we influence people. I need to create a character, impersonate something else.” Supriya has developed this love for impersonating from her husband. “He makes you feel guilty of not putting in enough.”

Supriya also has films ‘Dharma’ and a comedy directed by cinematographer Rajan Kothari with Pankaj. Ask her whether she’s creatively satisfied and Supriya says, “You achieve only as much you are destined to. I didn’t feel happy with the people in the industry and the working pattern. I was not ambitious enough.” She adds, “I wanted more from my relationship with my husband and family. This need was more powerful than that of being an actor.”
